SSJ 2 Goku is barely stronger than this, as noted by Piccolo. Broly stomped the hell out of Gohan, and was even holding back a Kamehameha from SSJ 2 Goku, SSJ Gohan, and SSJ Goten until the final release of energy. He's much stronger than a SSJ 2. There's no reason to assume Gohan was even close to he's CG counterpart,he was only stated to been stronger than he was on M8,and we have Goku 50%=Goku M8>Gohan M8 that's still nothing close to a guy like CG Gohan

Although I believe in M8, Gohan wears the same gi that he wears in the Cell Games, so that is evidence that it did take place during the Cell Games, and it's possible that Goku was just haxed. Keep in mind, Broly in this movie was about as strong as FP Perfect Cell, so even SSJ Gohan would look terribly weak. Also Vegeta/Trunks didn't use SSJ Gr 2, meaning it should take place after their second rosat trip, and Gohan/Goku's first. A civil Broly debate? What kind of black magic is this? ON TOPIC: There's many different assumptions we can make in M8. Were Vegeta/Trunks Post 2nd RoSaT? Was Goku haxed? Was Gohan nerfed? And for crying out to the heavens!, was LSSJ Broly and FPSSJ tier character or a FP Perfect Cell tier character? I personally beilieve that Gohan was weaker than Piccolo being that he had the worst feats in the movie meaning he's weaker then Semi-Perfect Cell. That would support Gohan not being on his CG counterpart's level. Then again, i've also come to the conclusion that the DBZ community will never formulate a general conscious and that everyone will have their own opinions on this so we can all have our different viewpoints.

Why would Toei force him to fight in a suppressed state for an entire film? They know how to multiply by two. Even then, they wouldn't have been concerned about the math behind anything.
